I have never been to Thailand and so i was in quite a dilemma to pick a city from the Land of Smiles. There were too many options; Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pai, Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket etc. Many suggested Bangkok as that is the most popular choice among my friends and what could possibly go wrong at the capital of Thailand, the largest city with a population of 11 million people. I was spoilt for choice like a kid in a Toys 'R' Us store.

Well, i wasn't open to the idea of heading where everyone else wanted to go for their first visit to Thailand more over i have watch documentaries/television shows that shows how much saturated Bangkok is with tourist and touts. It is also popular because of the many malls and awesome night markets that will make people go crazy shopping over there. In short, it is a shopping heaven. Now, i wouldn't want my money to contribute on the "Shopping" category on my finance list. Especially when i'm on a tight budget.

Someone then cleverly suggested Krabi to me. I have no idea what is in Krabi. Nothing, zero, nuts.

So what's in Krabi? And why is everyone talking about it?

Krabi is the main gateway to 154 islands around the peninsula. The famous ones being Koh Phi Phi Leh because it was featured in the movie The Beach. There are dozens of package which includes loads of activities like kayaking, caving and snorkeling. If you are feeling a little bit more adventurous, hire your own longtail driver and let him take you around the islands. You will definitely love the emerald green super clear waters over here!

To name SOME of the islands, out of my memory; Tup Tup Island, Bamboo Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island, Hong Island and James Bond Island (always an easy spot when you fly to Phuket or Krabi Airport.)

Fun fact: If you see words that start with "Koh", it means island in Thai language.

So tell me what do you want to eat here? They have got all kinds! Insects for snacks? They have a variety. Banana/Mango/Pineapple (Insert Fruit name here) Nutella pancakes with Hershey Chocolate sauce. Yup. Cheap seafood. Cheap Pad Thai. Cheap Thai Fried Rice. Cheap Prawns of all sorts. Cheap Tom Yum. Checked it all. YOU GET THE DRIFT!

Everything is so freaking cheap that if you asked me how cheap, i would say the God of Cheap kind of Cheap. Well you get it, don't you? That also means budget friendly for a backpacker like me.

Krabi is not just limited to beach bummin' and eating. It opens the door to more adventures inland. Some of the packages are super nonstop action packed activities. You could do a whole lot of things from Ziplining, ATV riding, elephant trekking, river rafting etc! All of these activities takes place in Phang Nga, another province situated in between Krabi and Phuket. You will never get bored!

The countless night markets in Krabi Town is worth exploring. North, South, East and West! I kid you not. One of the night market also have a carnival! Maybe if you don't find one at the other corner, you will sure bumped into a quirky cafe of sort. Go ask around!
Beach bumming, cheap ass food, interesting night market and a fun filled adventure. Now that sums up Krabi, in a not so nutshell (because i went back again!) So why wait? Budget airlines to Krabi is so cheap now!

Stay tuned for more adventures in Thailand as i discover it. One at a time.
